“Artist Against All Odds” short run book design
Robin Brooks at The Beauty of Books, in collaboration with author Janet Gerry and Paideia Publishers, designed and produced Artist Against All Odds: The Story of Robert Strong Woodward. Janet’s short run book was written for children around twelve years of age, but the type was used in a larger format than usual to accommodate the eyes of the older community that would undoubtedly be interested in reading about this local hero.
This is the story of Robert Woodward, an artist in the vicinity of Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, who lost the use of his legs after an accident with his gun. From then on, a paraplegic for life, he used his hard-forged courage and strength to continue his landscape painting through windows and even out of doors.
Pat Leuchtman, librarian and writer, speaks about Gerry’s book:
“Janet Gerry tells the inspring story of the painter Robert Strong Woodward, whose life was irrevocably altered just as the world was opening to him. With grace and humor Gerry shows us how he came to share his view of the rural New England landscape with the world.”
Artist Against All Odds is 7” wide and 9” tall.
